X Star & China Performing Arts Interviews Creators of Chengdu’s Acclaimed Musical “Panda”

Exploring the internationalisation of Chinese original musicals

Edinburgh, UK — July 2025 — During Chinese Culture Week at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, X Star Production had the honour of hosting an exclusive interview with the creative team behind the acclaimed English-language musical Panda from Chengdu: Li Dun and Zhou Ke. The conversation, conducted in collaboration with China Performing Arts (中国演艺), focused on the development and global potential of Chinese original musicals.

Li Dun shared his vision for the future, expressing the hope that Chinese musicals could one day reach the level of Broadway productions, becoming a part of everyday cultural life for audiences around the world. Zhou Ke emphasised the importance of creativity rooted in authenticity, encouraging young creators to focus less on commercial gain and more on the cultural depth and intrinsic value of their works.
